Review: Unlock your Hip Flexors

It has been a while since I wrote something here but I have been searching to find ways to help my hips and improve my kicks.  I spent a great deal of time and effort finding ways to improve my kicks and have found a program called Unlock your Hip Flexors that I think will help you too.

Unlock your Hip Flexors

During my search, I stumbled across a guy named Rick Kaselj who created this program with Mike Westerdal. Rick created a simple but effective program to loosen up tight hips. The focus of his program is a series of movements that help loosen up tight hips flexors. Hip flexor tightness can be caused by various things but most likely, it is caused by sitting. If you have a desk job like me, chances are the four or five hours of training each week isn’t enough to reverse the damage from sitting in a chair for many hours each day.

To quote Rick:

“By spending so much time in your chair in a flexed position coupled with a lack of movement throughout the day, you have successfully followed the formula for creating tight iliopsoas muscles.”

There is a lot of detail about how these tight muscles impact your body and your movement but Rick can explain it better than me. The information in the the video along with the ebook explains many of the problems that I had with my hips over the last 10 years. I won’t tell you that you will reverse many years of sitting overnight but this is one of the most effective programs that I have found to help my kicks.

There are a few other programs that I am going to review in the future but Unlock your Hip Flexors is simple and the results are excellent.

10 simple moves to better kicks

Rick explains a series of 10 simple movements to loosen up your tight hips. He uses a variety of stretching and mobility exercises which includes:

  • PNF
  • Dynamic stretching
  • Core stability
  • Fascia stretching
  • Mobility movements
  • Muscle activation

He combines these movements in a specific order to maximize the release of the hips flexors where doing them out of order would cause even more tightness.

The whole routine can be completed in under 30 minutes and these best part is, you can do it alone.

You will have to buy the program to get the details but I am pretty sure that you will see the benefits quickly.  I like to do side kicks or kata after doing this routine because makes my kicks higher and my kata stances stronger and the movement in between more fluid.

This doesn’t only help your kicks

Even though this program wasn’t specifically designed to improve your Martial Arts, it has helped me improve not only my kicks but my stances and posture too.

This was designed to help people with back issues, knee problems and hip mobility problems but it also helps strengthen the muscle that connects the upper and lower body. My wife, who is also my Karate training partner, has had back issues for many years and this is one of the programs that she can do that makes her loosen up.
